Zoltan Csabai... Racing Driver (now that sounds strange... !!!)
As a child I was blessed with a father who loved to drive and despite not having much money loved to have the best car he could afford. I would love to have said that was Alfa’s or Ferrari’s, but they tended to be Vauxhalls and Fords.
As a young man I was a bit of a boy racer, enjoying spending as much time in a car as I could rather than clubbing and drinking. I was always the designated driver, and spent far more on Petrol than I ever did alcohol or women
(much to my wife’s misfortune).
I have always had a passion for motor sport and loved any opportunity to get in a car or behind the wheel of a go-cart, but alas opportunities for playing behind the steering wheel of a car
as a profession were hard to find and even harder to find with a decent amount of money to live on. I have therefore focussed on providing for the family and making sure they are looked after. I have managed to make a fairly successful career in IT. With the Death of my mother last year I began to realise that working all hours was not the only thing that I wanted to do, and I began
to look back at what I would have done differently… I find that I have been very lucky and with a supportive family I have had very few regrets in my life, but the one which I still regret not having the opportunity to do is motor sport, until now.
I am now in my 40’s, and yes this is probably a mid life crisis, but I have committed to doing the Caterham Academy. This involves building the car, taking my racing driver test (ARDS test) and a complete series of motor events (7 in total) which make up the 2012 caterham academy.
I started this website at the beginning of the build and have updated this site with all the things that went on, and the "tricky" issues and resolutions that I have found outside of the manual. The idea is to provide a source for others who are in the same process and hopefully make your pain less than mine.
Now the car is built comes the fun part, of running the car in, getting it on a track and finding out what the limits of the car are, and what my driving limits are ahead of the racing season for 2012. This site will report on progress and share news of the Caterham Academy 2012 racing season, and it will also provide a point for people to be entertained with news, tips and general information on the Caterham Academy 2012 season. I hope that you find this site useful and fun, and please feel free to give suggestions on content you want (or dont want) to see.
